The ATR is the first to be home to all the endemic species of birds of the Western Ghats. This speaks volumes about the conditions and topography of the Anamalais as an ideal habitat for bird life.

Over 250 species of birds have been identified in the Anamalais. However, we give below the list of birds that have been documented by us along with photographs of those that we have been able to capture on film. This list includes both the sanctuaries, the rural fringes of Pollachi, Udumalpet, Vaalpaarai and other villages. We haven't been able to capture pictures of all the birds as it is almost impossible without high-end equipment. We have sought help from other bird photographers visiting the Anamalais to create a full-fledged database.
